“Glad you’re here,” Lee greeted her as Kay walked into the kitchen.

“That’s different,” she told him as she poured herself a glass of iced tea.

Lee filled her in on his conversation with Todd Bruhn.

“I wish you hadn’t used my relationship with Rick as a lure,” Kay groused.

“I just kind of mentioned it. You wanted me to work harder at selling funerals,” he argued.

“What’s done is done.”

“Will you be here when Bruhn comes in?” Lee looked up at the clock. “He should be here around three.”

Kay looked at the mixture of anxiety and hope on Lee’s face and nodded. “Sure. I’m going to do some of my laundry. Just call me when he gets here.”

Less than an hour later, Lee ushered Todd into the office.

“My sister is out back. I’ll just go and get her. Would you like something to drink?”

“A glass of water would be great,” Todd said, and Lee thought he saw the lingering effects of a hangover in his furrowed brow.

“I think the oven is preheated,” Lee told Ruby with a hard stare and she left the office.

“Reminds me of my favorite aunt. A little crazy, but generous to a fault.” Todd looked at Kay. “After your brother told me you’d gone out with Rick, I remembered him talking about you.”

“I liked your nephew a great deal.”

“He was a good man. I…” He started to choke up, but cleared his throat. “Let’s do what we need to do.”

“Sadly, there are a lot of decisions to be made for a funeral to do justice to a deceased loved one,” Lee said with the proper tone of respect.

“I understand. I may have to postpone some decisions if I feel that my brother and his wife need to be consulted.”

“Of course. First, is the funeral going to be held in Lang?”

“Yes, his parents want him buried in the Old City Cemetery. They own eight plots.”

“Fine, I know the sexton. I talked to my contact at the morgue and they expect to perform the autopsy this afternoon and the body should be released in the morning. When do you think Rick’s parents would like to have the service and burial?”

“I heard back from Edgar about an hour ago. They’re flying in tomorrow morning. Would Monday be too soon?”

“Do you expect his friends and other family members to come from out of town?”

“I don’t know. Possibly.”

“Why don’t we have a viewing on Monday and hold the funeral on Wednesday? That will give
